  Springtime Gala!
Sunday, May 24     2:30 - 4 pm   (set up at 2:00)

It's our 50th Anniversary as a Society!
We hope that everyone who has ever been involved in the society, in whatever capacity, will join the celebration - our gala concert!

If you would like to perform and don’t know what, the Society has an
impressive library of music you may borrow.
This is a relaxed time
to share a modern groove or medieval score - alone or in
    small groups.

If you don’t know with whom, please contact [email protected]
      to find possible partners.

If you don’t have an instrument, the Society has some of those, too.
If you are coming from afar, we’ll organize billeting.
Dorothy Beyer has offered some coaching.
Vince Kelly has reminded us that it’s John Dowland’s 400th birthday,
so any performance of his music would be particularly welcome.

Above all YOU are welcome. Please come and help us remember why we love the sound of the recorder, and why playing it enriches our lives and gives us enhanced pleasure in the joy of making music together.

Knopper's Hall, King's University
9125 50 Street, Edmonton
Enter by the main entrance - at the back of the building.  Plenty of free parking.

A Varietie of Byrds, Gala Concert!
Saturday, April 13, 2024  2-4 pm  Westwood Unitarian Church
Picture
Glorious!    Bird songs and imitations, plus a couple by composer Byrd!   Vince Kelly's premier of his avant guard piece Un Cygne, simply shimmered!
Seventeen performers, eleven ensembles or solos!  Ages 12-80!
The audience heard the recorder as it was heard in the 1500s, then also how a contemporary composer successfully experiments with different musical sounds that our humble instrument can produce.  Besides all sizes of recorders, the audience was treated to hearing viol de gamba, baroque bassoon, harpsichord - with piano and guitar to round out the selections. It was fabulous!

Springtime Gala
Sunday, April 30, 2023    2 pm start
Strathcona Community League
Plenty of parking in the front lot.

A little different this year!  It was a relaxed, informal event which will included a sight-reading session
and an open-mic-type concert.

Musical friends played to play a piece (or two, or three) for us.  These included ERS members, Guitar Society members,
Red Deer Recorder
players, as well as Dorothy Beyer’s students and our special guests who played South American music!

 Springtime Gala 2023
Sunday, April 30, 2023       2 pm start
Strathcona Community League (main hall)
10139 - 87 Avenue, Edmonton

Our traditional spring gala this year will have a slightly different look than usual.
It will be a very relaxed, informal event.
We invite anyone
who has music to share to do so
and will extend that invitation to guests willing to join us.

Previous delight!
Springtime Sunday Gala!

This was a highlight of our year (and...for a couple of years) -- an in-person performance!  We heard duets, recorder/guitar, Baroque flute and our ERS Ensemble.  Special guests were recorder students who wowed us with their lovely tone, trills and fast fingers.
Our play-in component allowed the youngsters to participate in a whole SATB consort and even more of the performers could finally play in person together.
Many thanks to the audience, performers and organizers.
